Coco Chanel

I couldn't find a better video for my favorite Tango part in the movie, but I guess this one would do. I absolutely loved it. Not only because Im so into fashion but because it is about giving a meaning, life, colour, and history to one of the greatest brands in the fashion world.. to an iconic fashion empire..

Coco Chanel was strong, independent, bold and a risk taker. She took great pride as a woman in designing for other women believing that they should dress for themselves and not their men. She introduced casual practical clothes for women by borrowing fabrics from men's fashion! She suffered, lived with a broken heart and never got married.. but after every fall she came back stronger and with more determination to survive.

Now- and after watching this- whenever I see the logo, I will remember it all.. what the logo itself means and how it was created (cutting the two Cs in the middle). The story behind the semi-formal "little black dress" which became a Chanel trademark and a fashion standard. The creation of Chanel handmade bags with their unique golden chain, the secret behind the Chanel suit jackets and Chanel No. 5

Some of her quotes:

• A woman should be two things: classy and fabulous.
• Success is often achieved by those who don`t know that failure is inevitable.
• In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different.
• I don`t know why women want any of the things men have when one of the things that women have is men.
• Fashion passes, style remains.
• To achieve great things, we must first dream.
• Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.
Fashion is architecture: it is a matter of proportions. ~CoCo Chanel

The BALLY Blonde

I have always wanted to get a 'BALLY' thing at some point or another.. but Im afraid their new Villemot Collection is so out of this world.

For me Bally represented class and elegance.. I assume they wanted to extend their target market, by appealing to more segments. Though I believe in order to do so you need to stick to your image and values instead of creating a totally different image.

No, Yes.. a birthday present?!

I would say absolutely NO to this ↓ , unfortunately Im finding them back along with the Check shirts.

Taken from ESPRIT website

And it's hard to say which one looks worse, those vests or the check shirts!

However, I would say a YES to this ↓. It's the same concept I know, but still I can consider them more acceptable, more fashionable, practical and useful. In the kind of weather we are experiencing at this time of the year when it's between winter and autumn but with a very strong burning sun that can be hidden behind the clouds 50% of the time, they can be very handy. You'd want to feel warm and not get sick but at the same time you don't want to look like a total zombie in a huge jacket when some people are walking with shorts!

It is the kind of thing I would buy and wear with everything.. to get the casual or semi formal look! It really works both ways!

please don't come back!!!

Check shirts are everywhere nowadays! Please don't let it be the trend of the season.. I used to hate them -back in the nineties? I guess- and I still hate them. They are ugly, boring regardless of the pattern/color, and look bad on girls (all girls - fat, slim, .. any girl!). Ewww!

Does this have to do with the economic crisis? Fashion designers.. wake up and stop copying old creations. Hello!!!

Little Losers!

Jay Jays - which is a fashion retailer had recently their new line of the 'Little Losers clothing'. The funny thing is those t-shirts are mainly worn by teenagers and they play on the Mr Men characters featuring slogans such as Miss Bitch, Mr Asshole, Mr Well Hung, Miss Floozy and Mr Drunk!!! And sold as cool and trendy reflecting the teenage rebellion.

Now I believe the outrage was a justified reaction caused by this line to parents who were calling to pull the 'lewd' t-shirts.

I think this is far away from being trendy! I mean how would someone walk in the streets wearing such a t-shirt feel proud, cool or good about it!! seriously!

Though I must admit that this would make a really nice gift if sent to certain people with attitude problems..!

Jibbitz

I must admit that I LOVE the Crocs Shoes on children. This should be just for under 5 . Why?!

Simply because the Jibbitz make all the difference.

They come in all the shapes children love. It is an idea that honestly makes me jealous. It is a very successful business because it has it all:

- They're sold at a relatively high price (per one), children would not get bored of them.. why would they when they come in different shapes and colors.

Each child would have AT LEAST two (one for each pair), and this is at least.. assuming that this is an easy going child who listens to the parents and is easy to satisfy!

- It's a full of surprises business. It doesn't stop here. And in order not to limit them for children, there are also - activities, horoscopes, awareness - for adults Jibbitz.

And new products are also released, so they won't only be linked to Crocs shoes! Now they also sell keychain jibbitz,

Crocs Shoe shape Mobile Holders, Small Bags, Straps and even Wristbands.

This is what I call 'smart business'!!

Desert Scarves

Had I known I'd find them everywhere and in all colors - but mostly black-, I would've brought one with me!

They are sold for a range of $15-$30 depending on the place that sells them. They are called 'the desert scarves' and are both winter and summer latest fashion!

Adaptation

It seems that I have a thing for the latest fashion trends, clothes, all types of accessories. That would include make up too! I just can’t handle it, if Im walking in the street I don’t just window shop but I end up trying things on and buying what I like.
It doesn’t matter how late I am or if I am to meet up with someone, cause it’s just like this, if I see something that I like I just go and check it out.. Nothing can stop me, it’s like having this extra uncontrollable energy and I feel like letting it out.

It doesn’t only stop here, I also look at people in the street, I like to see what’s in style.. shoes, skirts, sandals, even hair bands and hats!! And I pay attention for the smallest details, accessories, sunglasses and the latest nail polish colour. Whether the color of the month is red or orange.. it all matters! And I really wonder why on earth haven’t I studied anything that has to do with fashion or design!!!

So I decided to bring it all here.. YES! Im going to blog about it. FASHION! But the fashion here, which is more or less different than anywhere else!!Im learning to enjoy it though, I see it as part of the adaptation since it’s something that MATTERS to me, so I have to live with it.. but to buy clothes here would mean you can’t wear them anywhere else. Both the colors and designs would have something to do with the beach.. it’s very simple.

I have never in my whole life seen the amount of flip flops (which are called or known as ‘thongs’ here!).. you see them everywhere! Actually in the summer you see nothing else but ‘thongs’. And the crazy thing is that they’re simple and dull. In winters, when it's raining you'd be seeing them too!
The Havaianas thongs which are seen everywhere look like this.

But you can’t but have one at least.. they’re pretty comfortable even for long distance walking. I wear them to university, to the beach, to the city.. everywhere and anywhere! Though what’s so uncool is when you get the weird tan lines when wearing them in a sunny day!

As for the clothes, and because of the really hot weather, I can understand why the wide beach dresses are sold everywhere, but they’re very simple too. And not cheap taking into consideration that they’re not to be worn in Amman anywhere except for the pool!

It took me a while to accept it, and to realize that for a party, wearing a –dull, one colour- thong would do.. or even to university a beach dress would look nice! And I found it hard at the beginning to get used to the brand names since most of them are either Australian (with a beach style) or Asian, but now Im getting to like it… and the great thing is that you can wear whatever you want, and have all the mixed colours in a single outfit without getting any weird looks!

You get to be who you are.. without caring what others think or say… and be as simple as you can cause it’s 'you' who make a difference and not what you’re wearing!

The new 'it' accessory of the season

Moey's post 'Gadgets I Like..' and in particular the 'I Am Not A Paper Cup', reminded me of a bag that's so fashionable now.. and Im seeing it almost everywhere.

I really like it and think it's cool, maybe because it's different and stylish!
